Florida Real Estate Warning - Take precautions when opening homes
to buyers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Homeowners and Realtors are being urged to take
precautions when houses are being shown during open house events.
Officials of the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors issued a warning to Realtors in
the Jacksonville Beaches area to be on the alert for a woman who might be planning to
steal prescription drugs from houses that are being shown.
Details of the woman are sketchy, said Glenn East, executive vice president of the
Realtors association. East said the woman might be using aliases. He said the woman is
described as 30 to 40 years old with long brown hair and weighing about 115 to 125 pounds.
She drives a silver SUV. East said Realtors have described the woman as "hard to keep
up with during a house showing and attempts to preoccupy the Realtor in order to have time
to search the home."
He said homeowners can help Realtors protect their house during a showing by removing or
storing all valuable items and doing the same thing for items such as weapons and
prescription drugs. East said homeowners also should secure pets for the protection of the
pets and potential homebuyers. He said Realtors are reminded not to leave the potential
homebuyers unattended during open house events.
